Something about Gorumara national park

Located on the banks of the Murti and Raidak rivers in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, Gorumara National Park is a place you cannot restrict yourself to go. It sits properly at the foot of the great Himalayan Mountains and has a wide variety of plant life and wild life. This place is especially famous for its Asiatic one-horned rhinoceros. Asian elephants, including the royal Bengal tiger and the great Indian hornbill are also attract the mind. And while there are many gentrified mammals, reptiles, insects and birds, the park is also home to 193 species of birds, 22 species of reptiles, 7 species of turtles, and 27 species of fish. During the winter season, migratory birds like teal, ibis, stork are also seen which come here in flocks.

Without any comment, the most famous and fun-filled activity in Gorumara National Park is the wildlife safari. There are two types of safari that you can choose. Those are – Elephant Safari and Jeep Safari. The safaris take the tourists to tower the watch towers like jatraprasad watchtower, chandrachur watchtower, Chukchuki watchtower, methla watchtower, rhino point watchtower etc.

The finest time to observe the national park is from October to May.

The national park is opened all year around but, stays closed from 1st June to middle of September.

How to reach Gorumara-

The nearest airport to Gorumara National Park is Bagdogra Airport, which is connected to the National Park by road, about 78 km from the national park.

The nearest railway station is the New Myanaguri Railway Station, 20 km from the National Park. People also take cars from NJP station to reach Gorumara, which go via canal road and gajol doba road and cover around a distance of 60 km.

The national park Jaldapara is particularly significant in the forest map of West Bengal. Jaldapara has a huge fame for one horned rhinoceros. Tourists are seen all year round to see the single horned rhino. The dying out hog deer is also occasionally seen in the mystery forest. There are also leopards, gourds, cheetahs, elephants, etc. You are able to do safari on the back of an elephant. For those who are afraid of elephant safari, there has other option. Various eagles, pea birds, patriarchs, jungle birds, Bengal floricans, Indian hornbills, and many species of birds are found. Halang River is blowing through the forest. Various species of turtles and fishes lives there in the water of Halang.

How to reach

Hasimara is the nearest railway station from Jaldapara (about 15 km). A train, Kanchankanya express from Sealdah railway station runs daily at 8:30pm. Board on and reach Hasimara on the next day by 11:10 am. Cars are always available. Take a car and move towards Jaldapara.

If you are visiting Gorumara first, then from Gorumara to Jaldapara is about 80 km road. Hiring a car is better option.

Important things to know

Tickets for the jeep safari and elephant safari of Jaldapara National Park and Gorumara National Park should be collected by the guests from the Forest Office on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the direction of the Forest Department of the Government of West Bengal.

According to the camera department, payment of camera charge should be cleared while collecting permission. Guests will be required to produce a copy of the photo ID proof (PAN card / voter card/ driving license / passport) along with the other guests.
