Trekking in Ladakh

September would be the best time to do so. The roads are clear of roadblocks because of snowfall. The routes that lead to Ladakh – Srinagar to Leh and Manali to Leh is accessible with fewer challenges as compared to winter (November-February) and monsoon (July-August). Besides, the peak tourist season has almost ended then, and one can get the best deals on hotels too. Summer (April-June) is undoubtedly the best season to travel to Ladakh. If you are planning to go for Chadar trek in Ladakh, then it is open from mid-January till mid-March. The temperature in Ladakh is freezing most time of the year, and the mercury plummets at night and gets chilly though the sun can be warm during the day and a t-shirt and pants would do you good. It is advised to carry warm clothes. Carry inner thermal suits, pullover, jacket, woolen socks, hand gloves.

Ladakh in June and July

If you are visiting Ladakh in June and July, you will require windcheaters, raincoats and gumboots. Also, carry sunscreen as the sun at high elevations like Ladakh can be harsh on your skin during day time. June is one of the best time of the year to visit Leh by bike or road. If you wish to enjoy the snowy roads and mountains en route this is the best time to go for a holiday in Leh Ladakh. By mid-June, the snow begins dissolving so you will head out to some of the most beautiful lakes in Ladakh. The only time to travel by road to Leh Ladakh is from Mid-May to Mid – October. And the second half of October being a risky affair to travel and May being the only likely option for Srinagar – Leh Highway as Manali – Leh Highway generally opens by June first week or late May. On your visit to Leh, you will face the cold desert climate, especially from October to March.

Winter In Ladakh

In winters the temperatures are extreme in Leh, dipping below freezing point. However, winter days are sunny and bright.
